Beijing toughens road safety measures for congress

2012-10-26 17:11 Xinhua     Web Editor: Gu Liping comment

The Beijing municipal government has issued strict road safety measures ahead of the upcoming 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Vehicles carrying highly toxic chemicals will not be allowed to enter the city from Nov. 1 to 18, according to a notice on the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau website on Friday.

The 18th CPC National Congress will be held from Nov. 8 to a date yet to be specified.

Other haz-mat vehicles, with Beijing municipal vehicle registrations, will not be allowed within the Fourth Ring Road from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the period, the notice said.

Meanwhile, all haz-mat vehicles without Beijing's registration, except those specifically approved by the municipal government, will not be allowed into the Chinese capital.

Similar road safety measures were adopted in September 2009 when Beijing prepared celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
