China Cultural Center to open in Nepal

Government of China has formally started the process to open up China Cultural Center in Nepal with the aim of augmenting the cultural bond between the two counties.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this regard was signed between the two neighboring countries at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) today.

Yajna Prasad Gautam, Secretary at MoTCA and Yang Houlan, ambassador of People Republic of China signed the MoU on behalf of respective governments at the presence of Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Posta Bahadur Bogati.

Speaking in the program, Minister Bogati hoped that the new Chinese cultural center would help both countries to understand each other culturally and provide recourse to further develop the friendship in a new way.

After singing the MoU, ambassador Houlan said that the establishment of the cultural center in Kathmandu would provide impetus for better understanding between the peoples as well as enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries. He was of the opinion that the Cultural center would provide an easy and accessible platform for the cultural exchanges to understand the rich and diverse cultures of the both counties.

"The establishment of cultural center will help reduce cultural distance in hearts of the peoples of the both countries," Houlan said. Ambassador Houlan did not divulge the exact date for the center to come into operation. Nevertheless, he informed that they are searching for a suitable land to open the center 'very soon.'

Speaking in the program, Secretary Gautam shed lights on the historical aspect of long held cultural ties between Nepal and China.

As per the seven-sectioned MoU, the main objective of the Center is to provide quality and accessible cultural programs to the public with the view to promoting exchange and cooperation in the field of culture and enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of Nepal and China.

The date of establishment of the center is to be confirmed through diplomatic channels, according to the statement released by the ministry.
