Robot steps up in "Gangnam Style"

Ever since its release, "Gangnam Style" has caused a sweeping effect, on music lovers as well as dancers all around the world. And even robots want to give it a swing. Recently at a robot competition in China, a robot performing "Gangnam Style" won the single dance title.

It's all about mechanics and music at the second Chinese Intelligent Exposition and Industrial Summit Forum. More than 30 contestants from six universities participated to showcase their robot's best moves to an impressed audience.

"Gangnam Style" by South Korean rapper Psy has become a global sensation since being released in July. These robots wanted to catch up with the latest fashion.

Zhao Sheng, designer of Gangnam Style dansing robot,said, "Gangnam Style is quite a popular online video recently, and it is favored by many people, we also think that this song is quite creative, so we decided to use it as the background music."

The competition was divided into three categories; "dancing, boxing and serving." And the dancing portion included single and synchronized performances, ballet, and a group dance.

Contestants said the costume design, choreography, and coordination of the programme and music were the main grading criteria.
