Beijing customs arrested a foreign passenger at Beijing Capital International Airport whose luggage contained jewelry worth 5.6 million yuan ($ 894,320) which had not been declared, reported the Beijing Daily Tuesday.
The passenger passed the "nothing to declare" channel at the exit of Terminal 2, after arriving on a flight from Japan, but on inspection, a customs officer found 705 pieces of jewelry including red coral, diamonds, pearls, and jade in his luggage, wrapped up in tinfoil. The tax evasion was estimated to be about 1.8 million yuan.
