Huhu, a film about children in Xihaigu in Qinghai province, known as the most barren land on Earth, won the best documentary award in an online contest organized by web video portal, Ifeng.com.
The Next Life, a documentary about survivors of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, was honored for its "care for human beings".
These two films were among five winning works selected from 300 entries. Ifeng.com has gathered some of the most renowned documentary makers in China in its quest to discover more talents in the industry.
The judges included Ruby Yang, director of The Blood of Yingzhou District, an Academy Award winning documentary about orphans affected by AIDS; Chen Xiaoqing, director of smash hit A Bite of China; and Zhang Xianmin, professor of Beijing Film Academy.
