China's bamboo town to share experience

A forum aimed to share experiences in rural construction will be held November 17 in Anji County of east China's Zhejiang Province.

Co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Anji County Government, the one-day forum will see agricultural experts and officials sharing their views on how to better cultivate rural areas through eco-friendly efforts.

Anji is well known for its bamboo and contains 60,000 hectares of bamboo groves, featuring over 40 different species of bamboo.

In addition to the bamboo industry, the county has also taken on tourism and leisure agriculture as core industries.

"A farmer's average income in Anji is over 14,000 yuan (US$2242.8), more than twice the national average," said Xu Liming, deputy county magistrate. "We have explored a road to build a green industrial chain while at the same time increasing the farmer's income."
