Five people went missing after a fishing boat sank off the coast of east China's Shanghai Municipality, rescuers said on Monday.

The vessel, Suqiyu03349, took in water and sank in the seawaters 130 nautical miles northeast of the mouth of the Yangze River at around 11:16 p.m. on Sunday, said the Shanghai Maritime Search and Rescue Center.

Four of the nine people on board were rescued immediately by nearby vessels, but the other five remained missing.

Four fishing vessels are searching for the missing fishermen. Rescuers from the Shanghai Maritime Bureau and the East China Sea Rescue Bureau have also joined the rescue efforts.
