Mom's the word for national heroes

They have both been hailed as national heroes and were in the media spotlight several years ago for their selfless deeds.

Jiang Min and Luo Wei, two female delegates from Sichuan province to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, are back in the media spotlight this year, but now it's due to their children.

Jiang, from the Chengdu City Public Security Bureau, brought her 4-month-old son with her to Beijing for the congress.

"I was a bit worried at first whether I could bring my son to the Party congress," said Jiang.

Jiang was a policewoman in the city of Pengzhou in southwestern China's Sichuan province, when the Wenchuan earthquake struck on May 12, 2008, leaving nearly 80,000 people dead or missing.

Jiang lost 10 family members including her 2-year-old daughter and her parents in the quake, but she remained at her post and continued to rescue other quake victims.

She was dubbed the nation's "Most Beautiful Policewoman" by the media for her devotion to duty.

In July this year, like other quake survivors who lost their children, she was more than happy to become a parent again.

Luo Wei, from Guangyuan, Sichuan province, also brought her 5-month-old daughter to the congress.

In 2005, Luo, who was then 19, donated 55 percent of her liver to save the life of Liao Hongxia, a stranger and a woman who had cirrhosis of the liver in Pujiang county, Sichuan province.

Although Jiang and Luo met each other for the first time at the Party congress, the two mothers soon became friends and have shared their experiences about bringing up babies.
