ASP women' s world longboard championship kicks off

The 2012 ASP women' s world longboard championship kicked off on Wednesday in Wanning city in eastern part of South China' s Hainan Province.

Thirty-six surfers from USA, England, France, Brazil and China and other countries in the world participated in the five-day event to compete for the champion, who will win the prize of 10,000 U.S. dollars.

The event consists of eight rounds with eight better surfers advancing into quarterfinals and the final champion will be the winner of the event being crowned 2012 ASP Women' s World Longboard Champion.

"The surf is really small but the set waves have a nice shape." the contest director Dane Jordan said, "Some of the surfers were getting some good rides in the morning and I hope the contest will go on in the best waves possible."

ASP women' s world longboard championship is organized by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), which is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world' s best talent in this regard.
