Charities collect $1.85b

Charities in Shanghai have collected up to 11.5 billion yuan ($1.85 billion) in donations between 2008 and 2011.

The number of registered charitable organizations in the city increased from 9,900 in 2010 to 10,289 in 2011, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau reported Thursday.
