China offers jobs for Antarctic missions

2012-11-27 08:36 Xinhua     Web Editor: Liu Xian comment

The Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA), under the State Oceanic Administration (SOA), has offered 20 jobs for its 2013-2014 missions on two Chinese Antarctic research bases, the Changcheng and the Zhongshan.

The jobs are all logistics positions for the country's 30th expeditionary missions to the polar stations, and a total of 20 posts are offered, nine for the Changcheng and 11 for the Zhongshan, according to CAA sources.

In addition to the existing positions of medical and environmental officer, mechanic, chef, electrician and plumber, there will be two new ones -- network engineer and electronic engineer -- which are actually broken off from the previous "network and information engineer."

Meanwhile the brand-new position of maintainer is open to someone capable of serving as a carpenter.

Those who are recruited will work at the Changcheng from early December of 2013 to the end of December the next year, while new workers sent to the Zhongshan will have to stay there between early November of 2013 and late April the following year.

Interested persons can visit CAA's website, www.chinare.gov.cn/caa, download the application form and and send it when completed to the SOA before Dec. 23.

Each applicant is allowed to apply for one position only.
