A woman who wished to be called Zhang from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, rashly chopped off the thumb on her left hand in a quarrel with her husband over her out-of-control online shopping habit.
Zhang, 30 years old, lives in Suzhou's Wuzhong district with her husband and 2-year-old daughter. The female white-collar worker had taken to spending a lot of money on online purchases, much to the chagrin of her husband, who thoroughly disliked that his wife was so keen on the habit.
On Thursday night, Zhang sat down in front of the computer to search around for any new products that might interest her, which had become a nightly activity.
Having become too engrossed in browsing online offerings, she was ignoring the wails of her daughter who was crying loudly next to her. Her husband entered the room and threatened to pull out the Internet cord to make her stop shopping online.
The couple began arguing fiercely, and the husband threatened to chop off her finger if he saw her shopping online again. Zhang fired back, "I'll do it myself!" She rushed to the kitchen and cut off her left thumb.
The husband immediately took his wife to the hospital, and fortunately, Zhang's thumb was re-attached via surgery. The doctor said that Zhang needed to say in the hospital for 10 days for medical observation.
Both Zhang and her husband regret their out-of-control fight. However, he said he was still angry about her online shopping habit and she said she would curb her spending but not do away with it altogether.
