Tests on a new "super rice" in China have a achieved a record-high yield of 14 tons per hectare, according to team of experts from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The team supervised the harvest of the 8.5-hectare paddy field on the outskirts of Ningbo in eastern China to make sure the figure was accurate.
The new rice strain, called Yongyou 12, is a hybrid of various strains of high-yield rice and is now being promoted in Zhejiang Province.
Later, it will also planted around the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
