China's Miao ethnic group is celebrating their new year! And it's a double celebration as this year also marks the Guzang Festival a Miao traditional festival celebrated once every 13 years to worship their ancestors.

Thousands joined the celebration parade ahead of the ritual in Leishan county of southwest China's Guizhou Province. Leishan county houses more than 1,000 Miao families.

It is now the biggest settlement of the ethnic Miao minority in China. Miao people from across China and some from overseas also joined the celebration.

This year's celebration runs until Thursday. The celebration of the Miao New Year has been listed as China's national intangible cultural heritage.

Happy new year Miao people!
