Last week, four college students from Yangtze University in Jingzhou, Hubei Province, challenged themselves by going seven days without their electronic gadgets, and only three held out til the end.

"It is really difficult not to touch any phones or computers," said Liu Jie, one of the participants. Despite the challenge, he also found a bright side to the pact. "We had more time to hang out with friends and the radiation exposure decreased, which made us energetic."

Liu Siyu, another of the four students who took part in the challenge, also felt some changes, saying, "I felt anxious when I couldn't find my phone in my pocket, and I kept thinking I heard my phone ringing."

Liu Jie put their story on the Internet and their challenge attracted the attention of many people, but it is unclear whether the practice will start a trend.

"It is impossible and unrealistic to stay away from electronics totally. We need phones and computers in our life," said Zhang Chi, a student from Wuhan University of Technology.
