Another event marking the International Day of People with Disabilities is taking place in Beijing. A special painting exhibition named "Tracks of Life" is now underway at the National Art Museum of China. Notably, all the paintings on exhibit are the creation of children with cerebral palsy.
These colorful and vivid paintings come from the hands of a special group of children. They were all diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Most of them are unable to control their body, not to mention control the paintbrush. So each painting took much more time and energy than usual.
Doctors say that drawing pictures is not only fun, but also a very efficient way of exercise for these children.
Yang Jie, doctor, said,"It's such a surprise seeing that they can paint like this. It's a good exercise for the subtle movements of their body, and also helpful for the development of intelligence."
This painting is titled "Butterfly." It's author is the 15 year old Wu Tong, who spent two months on the painting.
Mother of Wu Tong said,"Since she began learning to paint, she has become more outgoing and talkative. Her way of communicating and thinking have also changed."
Xu Tao, volunteer, said,"The kid who painted this said the dark part signifies an unhappy time he experienced. But he believes that things will get better. I was deeply moved."
Grasslands, flowers and different scenes of Spring... From these paintings, it's hard to imagine that some children are not even able to move their arms or legs. They had to hold the brush in their mouth to draw the pictures.
More than 130 paintings are on display. The exhibition will run until December 5th.
