A number of self-immolations in China's western Qinghai Province has prompted local authorities to respond. According to the Qinghai Daily newspaper, the CPC Provincial committee has held a meeting to "study and plan a fight against self-immolations".
Since November this year, a number of incidents of self-immolation have occurred in the province. The report says such acts not only violate basic human ethics, but also go against modern civilized ideas of "respecting and loving life" as well as Buddhist doctrines.
It says officials and the public should recognize the unlawfulness of the Dalai Cliques' attempts to plan and incite acts of self-immolation. In the meeting, authorities urged local security personnel to thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring those who plan and incite self-immolations to justice.
