2012-12-13 11:18 chinadaily.com.cn     Web Editor: Wang YuXia comment

With the winter solstice, Christmas Day and New Year's Day fast approaching, Shanghai's road system and rail network are facing increased pressure.

The city is expecting to see an increase of about 2 percent in traffic flow compared with last month, according to the transportation authority.

During the winter solstice, which falls on Dec 21, people pay tribute to their ancestors at cemeteries in nearby cities. Severe traffic congestion is predicted in the morning and evening that day.

Use of public transport is also forecast to increase by 6 percent during the Spring Festival holiday.
