Young and fresh talent is making it into China's documentary scene, helped by CCTV's documentary channel, which is holding a contest for university students.
More than 200 documentaries made by students from 100 universities entered the contest. Nearly 20 works won awards. They included works from Jinan University and the Communication University of China.
Li Xingli, Jinan University student, said, "I believe persistence is of the essence, without it you will never get through the production process. We're not aiming for profit, we're just fuelled by our passion."
This passion touched the organizers of the event.
Hu Zhifeng, director of Chinese Collegial Association for Visual Art, said, "The fresh creative energy of the young people here really blew us away! TV stations engage in production and universities education before they never worked together. But now we are striving to incorporate the two through this event."
CCTV also offered training for the young contestants, giving them professional advice in production. It will offer help to 1000 students from 100 universities over the next 5 years.
