Eight children who are being treated at a hospital in Wuhan, capital of Henan province, are in a stable condition, four days after being injured in a knife attack at their primary school, according to doctors.

The children were among 23 pupils who were allegedly stabbed by a villager at a primary school in Guangshan county in Henan province, Central China on Dec 14.

Six of the eight children were sent to the Tongji Hospital in Wuhan by their parents on Friday night. Another two arrived later. It takes about three hours to travel from Guangshan to Wuhan by road.

All the children were in stable condition, Deng Pei, a doctor from the hospital, said on Tuesday.

Deng said most of the children's injuries are on their foreheads and faces, and some of them received only preliminary treatment before arriving at the hospital.

"Some of the wounds were sewn up with large needle, which would have left obvious scars after the surgery. We will use cosmetic lines to get the wounds sewn up again," Deng said.

Suspected attacker Min Yongjun was arrested on Sunday. He is being questioned by police.
