A senior official urged traditional mainstream media in China to speed up taking advantage of new technology to keep their voice heard by public.
Many major newspapers are losing their readers with the rising popularity of new media and social media, said Liu Binjie, chief of the General Administration of Press and Publication.
"Some mainstream media are facing great challenges now. They have very little influence on the Internet. Some people joke that only the reporters themselves and those who were reported on are reading their papers or watching the programs," Liu said.
"They should change their mind and make full use of the new technology and platform to promote the mainstream values and morals."
