A new wave of rain and snow has hit southern parts of China, with sleet affecting the provinces of Guizhou, Jiangxi, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
54 counties in Guizhou province are experiencing freezing temperatures and sleet. Road conditions are reported to have deteriorated and several vehicles have been stranded. Traffic police are helping to clear roads.
In Jiangxi, traffic control measures have been taken on 8 expressways. The airport in Nanchang city has resumed operations after being shut down for de-icing.
Sleet also led to frozen roads in Guangxi, causing a pileup in the Nandan section of the Lanhai expressway. The latest traffic reports say the roads are now clear and traffic has begun to flow. The Meteorological Agency says the rain and snow are expected to continue in southern areas of China over the next week.
