Heavy fog also led to fights between travellers and security this week at the Kunming Changshui international airport in Southwest China's Yunnan province.
Around 7,500 passengers were stranded, and 440 flights were cancelled on Wednesday. This photo shows police being yelled at by angry passengers while trying to keep the situation in check. One passenger, who was hurt during the scuffle, picked up a keyboard to throw at airport staff.
The other photo shows the check-in staff under siege by crowds who demanded an apology after a passenger was hurt by airport staff. Clashes in the departure lounge continued till late night on Friday. More passengers continued to arrive, making the departure lounge even more crowded, causing further delays to flights.
