Every night around 12 a.m., a charity in east China's Zhejiang province receives money from an anonymous donor.
The money, ranging from one yuan (0.16 U.S. dollars) to over 2,000 yuan each time, has been donated online to the Charity Federation of Jiaxing City between the hours of 12 and 1 a.m. every day for the last three years, according to Mo Wenzhen, the charity's accountant.
Mo said the federation began accepting online donations in 2008, although such donations were rare back then.
However, the federation started receiving a midnight donation from a mystery philanthropist on Nov. 1, 2009, receiving a single donation from the unnamed do-gooder at the same time every day since.
The total amount donated had reached nearly 39,000 yuan by December 2012, Mo said, adding that the donor is believed to be either a single person or a group of people working together.
In 2011, the federation recognized the donor, nicknamed "Every Day Donor," with a special award for his or her charitable efforts.
"I hope the person will show up someday so we can give the award in person and listen to the story behind the donations," Mo said.
