China's leading telecom and ICT solution provider in the world, Huawei Technologies, on Monday donated about 130,000 Ethiopian Birr (about 7,222 U.S. dollars) worth of food items and essential materials to the Macedonia Humanitarian Association (MHA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Founded and managed by a young Ethiopian, Biniam Belete, the charity organization provides shelter, food, and other forms of care to homeless and bed-ridden elders as well as persons with mental illness.
Currently, the MHA shelters and cares about 140 elderly people and persons with mental illness.
Austin Pan, Country Manager of Huawei Technologies Ethiopia, handed over the donation, including two modern cloth washing machines, 100 mattresses, 100 blankets, adult diapers and some quintals of teff flour (bread flour) among others on the occasion of the Ethiopian Christmas lunch program on the premises of MHA in Addis Ababa.
While handing over the donation, Pan along with other staff of Huawei Technologies Ethiopia served the special lunch of the holiday, which was organized with financial support from Huawei, to the elders and other people sheltered and cared at MHA.
Reiterating that Huawei Technologies had provided several donations and support to other humanitarian organization, schools, and universities in Ethiopia, the Country Manager of Huawei said his company would continue to do such noble deeds and other socially beneficial activities in the future.
Austin said Huawei decided to donate these essentials and food items to MHA based on its culture of giving back to the society where it is working in.
Huawei also adheres to the principles of helping those who need help the most, he said.
"As Ethiopia celebrates its unique Christmas, we are here to ensure that these people do not feel forgotten. We are here having lunch with these mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters in order to maintain the sense of family, which is the founding principle of both MHA and the global Huawei family which consists of 140,000 staff with more than 140 nations," said Austin.
Speaking on behalf of the founder and General-Manager of MHA, Yared Belete, a Volunteer at MHA, thanked Huawei for the support and donation to the charity organization.
He also expressed hope that Huawei would work with and support MHA in the future.
The elders at MHA have lauded the Chinese company for their visit, support and organizing the special holiday lunch.
