Local authorities in Central China's Henan province have set up anti-pollution barricades overnight. The barricades are to stop pollutants from pressing towards An Yang, a major city within the province, neighboring Shanxi Province.
A high concentration of toxic chemicals was found drawing close to a reservoir providing water for An Yang's industrial and environmental use. 20 tons of activated carbon has been tossed into the torrents to absorb the pollutants. Environmental authorities are still closely watching the water quality in nearby areas.
Elsewhere, in the city of Handan, Hebei Province, pollutants were detected upstream. The city government has also decided to set up dams to stop the polluted water.
