Three officials in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province have been dismissed after a 70-year-old man died Wednesday in a skirmish over a housing demolition, local authorities said Thursday.
Liu Hongyan, head of Zhaodong township in Zhaodong City, was removed from her post, according to the city's publicity department.
Also dismissed were Sheng Zhenshan, deputy chief of Zhaodong's urban management office and Jiang Xingting, chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) committee of Dongyue village.
Liu's deputy Ma Mingzhe was suspended from his role.
Dongyue villagers were caught up in a fight with demolition workers, led by government officers, on Wednesday morning when they were ordered to remove banners demanding "harmonious demolition".
The elderly man, Duan Guangfa, was wounded during the skirmish, and later died in hospital.
More than 10 other villagers were also injured during the dispute.
Five people suspected of inflicting the injuries were detained but their identities have not been released.
A further investigation into the incident is under way.
