China's first professionally collated book series detailing of the history of the world was launched on Thursday at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.
More than 150 experts and researchers of world history presented the series at the launch ceremony.
According to Wu Shulin, vice-director of the General Administration of Press and Publication, the historical masterpiece is composed of eight parts, and includes theory and methods, economic development, political systems, nationality and religion.
"World history has long been a weak point in China's historical research field. The launch of the World History book series indicates that China's world history research has reached a new level," said Wu Yin, vice-director of CASS.
The 39 books took more than 100 authors 12 years to compile. The authors are mainly historians and historical researchers from CASS and dozen of universities in China. The series is the first time world history has been written from the point of view of Chinese historians.
"These 15 million words faithfully retelling the history of the world has opened a new window for Chinese readers to know world history better," Wu said.
The books have been published by Jiangxi People's Publishing House.
