The heavy smog sweeping across China has put people's healths, and lives in peril. Wednesday morning, a pile-up occurred on a major expressway out of Beijing. The accident, which involved four trucks, a sleeper and a tank truck carrying 20 tons of diesel, left nine people injured.
The same day on a highway out of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, two people were killed and eight injured in a pile-up of 20 cars. Also in Zhejiang, a fire broke out on Monday in a furniture factory in Anji city. Due to the dense haze, the fire raged for three hours before finally being noticed.
Finally, in Chaohu city, in east China's Anhui Province, because of low visibility, two students failed to spot an incoming train as they crossed the rail line and were instantly killed.
