Police from Rizhao Public Security Bureau in Shandong Province said Monday that most college students who reported buying fake bus tickets have been able to return home and that the police are trying to find the perpetrator.
On January 14, a total of 56 students from Rizhao University and Science Park reported to the police that they had been sold fake tickets by a ticket office near the park.
The person in charge of the ticket office has vanished and left with 6,000 yuan ($964) received from those students, an official from the bureau's publicity department told the Xinhua News Agency on Monday.
"The ID card and name used by this person were fake. We're trying to catch the person and recover the money for the students," the official was quoted by Xinhua as saying.
The official said the students were only given receipts after paying for their trip and not given any formal tickets or invoice.
After the case was reported, campus police sent out a notice via Weibo reminding students to be careful when they buy tickets.
The management committee of the park told Xinhua that they hadn't found any students who were forced to stay behind after buying fake tickets.
