Heavy smog returned to the country. The National Meteorological Center maintained a blue alert for fog earlier on Wednesday morning.
Most areas in eastern China were shrouded by the fog. Visibility was lower than 1,000 meters in Beijing, Tianjin, and the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan and Jiangsu. In some areas, the visibility was down to 200 meters. Weather authorities say a fresh cold front will hit northern China starting Wednesday, and it's expected to disperse the fog in the coming days.
Now let's follow our reporters to see how the weather affected Beijing, Wuhan and Hong Kong. First in Beijing, heavy, lingering smog continues to blanket the city. The local meteorological observatory has issued a yellow alert, the third highest level.
