Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met parliament leaders from the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Laos respectively on Monday and Tuesday in Russia's Far Eastern city of Vladivostok and discussed bilateral ties and ways for further cooperation.
Cooperation between China and the ROK in various fields has achieved significant development since the two sides established diplomatic relations in 1992, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, told Kang Chang-hee, speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Monday.
China's new leadership attaches great importance to China-ROK relations and is willing to uphold the spirit of unity and cooperation, strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, step up communication and coordination with the ROK on international and regional issues, said Wu, who met Kang on the sidelines of the 21st annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Vladivostok.
China will strive to further advance bilateral ties and make joint efforts with the ROK to safeguard peace and stability in Northeast Asia, Wu said.
He expressed the hope that the NPC and the ROK's National Assembly would conduct regular exchanges to further advance the comprehensive development of China-ROK strategic partnership.
Kang spoke highly of China's constructive role in international and regional affairs and noted that the National Assembly of the ROK was satisfied with its friendly exchanges with the NPC.
The National Assembly of the ROK is willing to strengthen dialogue and exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and trust, deepen the friendship between the peoples of the two countries, and consolidate the social foundation for the development of ties between the two countries, Kang said.
