The most watched TV show on the globe is soon coming your way! CCTV's Spring Festival Gala has more than 700 million viewers worldwide, and has become an integral part of the Chinese New Year's Eve celebrations. The preparation for this year's program is well into the third stage.
Vocalist Song Zuying is no rookie to the Gala, she has been appearing on the show every year since 1990.
This year she's bringing something fresh into her performance, partnering with Celine Dion.
Song said, "We will perform the classic folk song 'Jasmine Flower' together. I think she's a perfectionist when it comes to singing, the audience will love it."
Another vocalist of greater stature will also make yet another appearance. Li Guyi is considered one of the greatest Chinese singers of all time. What's different this year is she will be joined by foreign students from the Confucius Institutes all over the world to perform the closing song of the gala.
Li said, "The closing song 'Unforgettable Night' has become a regular at the Gala, but we can infuse an old song with fresh meanings and emotions to give it new life."
New faces are also at the rehearsal, Kenji Wu and James Lin from Taiwan are in the final stages of their preparations.
Wu said, "I just finished competing at another contest the other week, so part of me was still there. But now I'm here, this feels like the real test, the finals.
James Lin will be teaming up with a singer from the Chinese mainland. The Spring Festival Gala will kick off on February 9th at 8pm Beijing time.
