The People's Daily has questioned allegations that China-based hackers have targeted US media groups. The People's Daily says the evidence presented is extremely vague.
The New York Times says Chinese hackers have persistently attacked the paper over the last four months, accessing systems and passwords. The Wall Street Journal also says its computer systems have been infiltrated, apparently to monitor its China coverage and the attackers' IP address is in China.
The People's Daily says hacker-attacks are transnational and disguised and an IP address is not sufficient evidence of a hacker's location. Hacking is an international issue and should be dealt with by joint efforts from around the world. It says the US has frequently accused China of hacking to justify claims of a "China threat".
The paper says China is one of the biggest victims of hacking and the country has played an active role in international efforts to boost Internet security.
