China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has summoned the DPRK ambassador to China, Ji Jae Ryong, to express China's firm opposition to the nuclear test.
Earlier on Tuesday, the ministry released a statement, urging the DPRK to honor its commitment to de-nuclearization, and to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in North East Asia.
Yang Jiechi called on the DPRK not to "take additional actions that could cause the situation to further deteriorate." He also urged all sides to "respond calmly" and said issues should be resolved within the framework of long-stalled de-nuclearisation talks.
The 6-party talks include the DPRK, China, the US, South Korea, Japan and Russia. The DPRK quit the talks in April 2009.
