The Potala Palace in Tibet is world-famous for its beauty and history. Millions of tourists and pilgrims visit it every year. But there's one man who has worked opposite the palace for years and never been inside.
Another working day begins. Not everyone in Lhasa is up as early as 41-year-old Da Qiong. He's the doorkeeper of the Jag Pori picture spot, opposite the Potala Palace. The dawn quiet doesn't last long. The first visitor soon arrives. The palace shows off its breathtaking beauty in the sunrise.
And many others agree. Lhasa's iconic landmark attracts millions of visitors every year. And that keeps the picture spot busy.
Da Qiong said, "I am glad to provide the service to people from all over the world."
This is where Da Qiong works every day. Although it is so close to the Potala Palace, he never has the chance to get in and visit it.
Da Qiong said, "My working hours are the same as the Palace opening hours. That's why I haven't been there. I always want to visit it, and I will do so this year."
As the last visitor leaves, Da Qiong can call it a day. For more than a thousand days, he's kept a close watch on the Palace. And he hopes that one day he can get even closer and appreciate its beauty from another perspective.
