The governments of China and Mozambique on Monday signed an agreement in Maputo for the provision of medical equipment for Maputo Central Hospital.
The accord was signed by Mozambican health minister, Alexandre Manguele and the Chinese ambassador to Mozambique, Li Chunhua.
"China would like to see the conditions of the Mozambican people improved," said the Chinese ambassador.
For his part, health minister Alexandre Manguele said "We are going to have a modern equipment here." The equipment, worth 1.6 million U.S. dollars, is for the dental section at the central hospital, the main health facility in the country.
The section is at the moment being rehabilitated and refurbished.
Manguele thanked the Chinese government for the hand, saying that the gesture falls under the existing bilateral cooperation between China and Mozambique.
China cooperates in the health sector for quite a long time, and currently 17 Chinese doctors are helping their Mozambican counterparts technically in health issues.
Last year, the Chinese government donated medical equipment twice to the Maputo military hospital, under the military cooperation between the two nations.
