4.2-magnitude quake hits SW China

 A 4.2-magnitude earthquake jolted the border area of Yongsheng County and Ninglang Yi Autonomous County of Lijiang City in southwest China's Yunnan Province at 5:43 a.m. on Friday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 14 km, was monitored at 26.7 degrees north latitude and 100.8 degrees east longitude, the center said.

The quake was strongly felt in Yongsheng, and it damaged some houses, according to the provincial department of civil affairs.

The local government has sent work groups to the affected areas to check for casualties and damage.
