Chinese lawmakers will scrutinize the budget for the social security fund for the first time at the upcoming annual session of the national legislature.
Fu Ying, spokeswoman for the first session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), said Monday that the social security fund budget will be included in the government budget report that will be submitted to the session for deliberation.
"The social security fund has a bearing on the fundamental interests of the people. We must manage and supervise it well," Fu said at a press conference in Beijing.
China has formed a relatively comprehensive framework to review and supervise the government's budget and expenditure at all levels. But there are still rooms for improvement, Fu said.
She said the management and supervision over local governments' debts is inadequate and not effective.
The first session of the 12th NPC will open Tuesday in Beijing.
