China transfers fraud suspect to ROK

2013-03-04 17:48 Xinhua     Web Editor: Wang Fan comment

Chinese police on Monday transferred a criminal suspect from the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ROK authorities in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

From 2002 to 2007, Park Inhyeong allegedly cheated people out of 860 million won (about 787,315 U.S. dollars) by promising high returns on short-term investments and other scams, then fled with the cash, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.

The suspect was apprehended by Chinese police when he used a fake passport to try to enter China through the Jiuzhou Port in Zhuhai at the end of 2012. It is verified that Park is a criminal suspect wanted by ROK police. Chinese police decided to transfer the criminal suspect to the ROK after an investigation, said the ministry.

Park's capture and transfer marked achievements by both sides in cracking down on transnational crimes, the ministry said, adding that China will intensify cooperation with the ROK.
