Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said news reports claiming that a piece of space debris from a Chinese satellite severely damaged a Russian satellite late last week were "unprofessional" and "irresponsible."
Hua said space debris is a problem caused by humanity's decades of space exploration. China has always supported global action to reduce space debris.
A researcher from the US-based Center for Space Standards & Innovation said earlier this week that the Russian satellite was damaged by debris of China's Fengyun-IC meteorological satellite, which was destroyed in China's anti-satellite missile test in 2007.
