Keep It Glassy
The Shanghai Museum of Glass in Baoshan district is hosting a sparkling new exhibition that shows the playful and fun character of glass design. Entitled Keep It Glassy, the exhibition will feature more than 200 works by more than 50 designers from all over the world, among them noted artists such as Droog (the Netherlands), Fabrica (Italy), the Campana Brothers (Brazil), and Tadao Ando (Japan). The show is curated on the idea of bringing together the works of creative minds who all share a common interest - a passion for glass and an excitement in working with this delicate material. It will run throughout the year.

Yu Yang's Solo Exhibition: The Circular Maze
Yu Yang, also known as Nisky, is the first Chinese artist signed up by the Galerie Dumonteil since it entered the Chinese market five years ago. Entitled The Circular Maze, this exhibition is this 24-year-old Shanghai-born artist's first open solo exhibition and it will be displayed at Galerie Dunmonteil's Paris and New York branches later. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges's book The Circular Ruins, this exhibition showcases 12 artworks created by Yu in the past two years, featuring totems of African tribes, the Dunhuang frescoes and Tibetan Thangka.

Shanghai Surprise: A Group Show on Contemporary Art in Shanghai
Initiated by two Shanghai-based curators Xu Yu and Wu Wei, Shanghai Surprise reviews the changes and developments in the art scene in Shanghai during the past 15 years. The exhibition is separated into two parts. The first is works which have been displayed in the city's galleries in the past and the other is a reading room that offers free access to publications, maps and digital documents related to the art scene in Shanghai.

San Shui's Solo Exhibition: Blurred Reality
Entitled Blurred Reality, San Shui's latest exhibition is a combination of photography and video works, aiming to explore the Chinese way of life and culture. The artworks on display feature architecture in modern-day cities and the people living in these cities. San Shui started to create this series in 2008. He graduated from the Fine Art College of Harbin Normal University in 1994 and received his master's degree from the Department of Fine Art, Tsinghua University in 1998.

Sten and Lex Shanghai Solo Exhibition
Both born in 1982, Sten and Lex are a pair of Italian street artists. They have been doing stenciling on streets since 2000, and today their works have become part of the urban landscape in Rome, London, Paris, Barcelona and New York. They usually produce portraits of anonymous people they have photographed or found in old family photo albums. Sten and Lex were hosted by the Cans Festival in London in 2008, and were recently seen at the Open Walls Festival in Baltimore and at the Vues sur Vues exhibition in Belgium. The two talented artists will be making their China debut at the Magda Danysz's gallery in Shanghai.

The Vanishing Horizon
Inspired by the English pilot Beryl Markham's book West with the Night, The Vanishing Horizon tells the story of her life in Kenya and experience of flying alone from England to North America. Using luggage, maps and paper airplanes, Total Theatre Award-nominated Idle Motion move from the pioneers of aviation to one woman's discovery of her past, journeying through crowded airports to silent skies. Formed in 2007, the Idle Motion Company is a physical theater group based in Oxford, the UK.

Fou Ts'ong Piano Recital
Acclaimed Shanghai-born pianist Fou Ts'ong (Fu Cong) is coming back to his hometown next month at the age of 79. As the son of great Chinese translator Fu Lei, Fou was lucky enough to study piano with Mario Paci, the Italian founder of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra when he was a little boy. Fou was once named "one of the greatest pianists in the world" by the US-based Time magazine. He has devoted himself to bringing Chinese culture into classic Western music.

Maria Nemtsova Piano Recital
Born in 1984 in Moscow, pianist Maria Nemtsova is an up-and-coming musician. She started to learn piano at the age of 6 and was accepted by the prestigious Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory Academic College in 1998. She later went to London's Royal College of Music to pursue her master's degree in Music Performance. In her Shanghai recital, Nemtsova will play masterpieces by Schubert, Schumann and Liszt.

Lecture by Javier Moro
Acclaimed Spanish writer Javier Moro will be in Shanghai sharing his stories with local fans. El imperio eres tú (The Empire is You) is his seventh book and the one for which he won the prestigious Planeta Prize for best novel in Spain. The book has been translated into 12 languages and has sold 2 million copies worldwide. The event will be separated into two sessions. Moro will conduct a book reading, signing and Q&A session on March 16, and he will give a speech about El imperio eres tú on March 19. Reservations are required.
