A total of 243 officials from western China and other minority regions started their one-year rotation in 88 central state organs and state-owned enterprises in Beijing, authorities said Tuesday.

Another 293 officials from western China and minority areas have been sent to the country's developed eastern regions for personnel exchanges this year, according to the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Of the 536 local officials engaged in this year's rotation, 354 are officials at the county level, accounting for 66 percent, with the rest at the prefecture level, according to figures released by the department.

Personnel exchanges between officials from the western and eastern regions are an important measure for enhancing the development of the contingent of cadres from the western and minority areas, said the department.

As of 2012, 6,455 local officials had been involved in such exchanges since the program was started in 1990. Of the total, 3,394 have been from minority areas, or 52.6 percent of the entire cadres in rotation, and 1,618 have been female, accounting for 25.1 percent.
