World-renowned Spanish tenor Jose Carreras will participate in an opening ceremony for an upcoming large-scale art event, the event's sponsors said on Tuesday.
Carreras will perform at the ceremony, which will be held at the National Center for the Performing Arts. The tenor will also sing a Chinese song with a Chinese singer.
Carreras is one of several foreign artists from almost 20 countries who will participate in the event, titled "Meeting in Beijing." More than 60 groups of artists from China and abroad will perform during the event, which will be held from April 27 to May 30.
Jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and Beijing municipal government, the event will also feature a Latin American art show, which will showcase art and culture from more than 18 Latin American countries.
The event has been held 13 times since debuting in 2000. More than 30,000 artists from 110 countries have participated in the event, which has become the largest springtime art event in Asia.
