A Party official in east China's Zhejiang Province has been removed from his post for an alleged extramarital affair that was exposed online, authorities said on Tuesday.

Wu Kaifeng, a member of the Standing Committee of the municipal party committee and secretary-general of Wenzhou, received the punishment for violating party disciplines, according to the city's discipline department.

A post on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo detailing Wu's extramarital relationship with a woman went viral at the end of March, triggering great concerns among the public.

The disciplinary watchdog will further investigate the case.
