Beijing plans to build 600 taxi stands, and will set up the first 165 stands in central Beijing's Dongcheng and Xicheng districts, the city commission of transport said on April 18, 2013.
A taxi stand is a zone along a road, at a hotel or in a residential community for passengers to get a taxi.
Officials are trying to guide passengers to wait for taxis in designated zones in light of Beijing's scarcity of taxis.
The 165 pilot taxi stands will be constructed under a unified standard in concentrated areas such as Beijing Railway Station and Wangfujing.
The transport commission opened a special section on its official website to collect suggestions from the public, from April 18 to 30.
