In the wake of the Lushan earthquake, China's Ministry of Environmental Protection has initiated an emergency plan to monitor environmental safety in the area.

Preliminary checks in Lushan county revealed that chemical plants, warehouses and other places posing safety risks had not been damaged in the quake. Sources of drinking water are also safe. And all nuclear facilities are running normally.

A team of experts has been deployed to the city of Ya'an to monitor the environment.
