The China Earthquake Administration (CEA) has set up seven mobile seismic stations and six strong-motion stations to conduct field monitoring on aftershocks in the area of southwest China's Sichuan Province affected by Saturday's 7.0-magnitude earthquake.
Observation data collected from the stations can be transmitted in real time through the Internet to analyze the development of aftershocks around Lushan County, Ya'an City of Sichuan, the CEA said.
A total of 34 work teams consisting of more than 100 people were dispatched to the quake-hit area on Sunday to assess of damage caused by the 7.0-magnitude quake.
More than 2,100 aftershocks have been recorded in Lushan as of Monday noon, with the strongest measuring 5.4-magnitude, the CEA said.
The earthquake hit Lushan at 8:02 a.m. Beijing time on Saturday, leaving at least 186 people dead and 11,393 injured, according to latest statistics from the provincial emergency response command center.
Lushan is about 200 km from the epicenter of the massive Wenchuan earthquake that left 87,000 dead or missing five years ago.
