102 cultural relics sites damaged in Ya'an quake

A total of 102 cultural relics protection units had been damaged after Saturday's 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan in southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.

Among these units were 24 sites at national level and 61 at provincial level. The quake had also damaged another 12 museums, where 274 cultural relics items were affected, according to the administration as of 2 p.m. Sunday.

The administration said it will continue to verify the situations of local cultural relics with the cooperation of Sichuan's provincial cultural heritage department, and sent special personnel to conduct field survey once conditions permit.

As of 8 p.m. Sunday, a total of 1,339 aftershocks had been monitored in the epicenter of Lushan County. Four of them were measured within a range of 5.0 to 5.9 magnitude.

So far, a total of 186 people have been confirmed dead in the quake.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, health workers with Sichuan's local health departments had treated 8,761 people injured in the quake, with 1,397 hospitalized, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

According to the commission, a total of 1,125 medical workers have been dispatched to the quake-hit region, and the treatments of the wounded has been conducted mainly in seven neighboring cities including Ya'an and Chengdu.
