An Air China flight carrying medical staff and medicine has arrived at the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. Over 30 medical workers from major hospitals in Beijing, Xi'an and other cities will travel to Yaan to offer medical treatment to the patients there.
Earlier, the National Health and Family Planning Commission dispatched a national medical emergency response team consisting of more than 180 doctors to the area.
The commission underlined the importance of supervising food safety in the disaster-hit regions, as well as strengthening water quality monitoring in the region. Sunday morning, officials of the National Health and Family Planning Commission returned to Yaan from Lushan County to learn the current treatment situation in the hospitals there. A senior official with the commission, Liang Wannian, responded to questions about the limited medical resources in the quake zone.
